I believe you are a caterpillar/butterfly.

I'll admit I'm stymied by the beautiful wife. I'm tempted to say it is a tree, with perhaps the 'fewer sons and daughters' being a result of harboring/nourishing something that feeds upon her.

I don't know if I am right in sticking with the theme here, but could this describe baptism?

The kindly wife is Holy Mother Church, which nourishes the faithful. The newly baptized became a kin of spirit to the new kindred through their shared sacrament.

"Fewer beloved sons and daughters" line at the end has stumped me.

I struggle with riddles because I struggle with reading them symbolically, my answers, you will find, always try to answer the literal events given. I am certain if I am wrong, it is because the events describe something other than the events.

You are over thinking it. None of these riddles relate to Christianity. 👍🏽 There are some in the wider canon of Old English riddles that do, but not the ones I’ve chosen. 🙂

A clue to this one: I was going to add ‘I flew away to far away fields’.

I appreciate the clue but now I am completely lost. This is why I subscribe to you, I need your symbological expertise!

I am going to work hard to get my two neurons to connect and I will return with another guess! 🤔
